Dimitar Berbatov thinks Ruben Amorim asked himself seven-word question around one Man Utd player during Arsenal defeat

Dimitar Berbatov believes Ruben Amorim must have been left scratching his head over a repeated problem Manchester United faced against Arsenal on Wednesday evening.

Ruben Amorim suffered his first defeat as Manchester United manager after Arsenal secured a convincing 2-0 win over the Red Devils at the Emirates.

The Gunners broke the deadlock in the second half after Jurrien Timber connected with Declan Rice and flicked the ball with his header past a helpless Andre Onana.

United were once again exposed by an Arsenal corner in the second half after Bukayo Saka picked out Thomas Partey at the back post.

Thomas Partey misfired his header into William Saliba, with the ball ricocheting off the Arsenal defender and landing in the back of Andre Onana’s net.

Amorim’s men were unable to rally back into the contest and Mikel Arteta’s men walked away with all three Premier League points on the night.

Berbatov on Amorim and Man Utd vs Arsenal

Manchester United are now 11th in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are seven points adrift from the top four after 14 matches played.

Arsenal, on the other hand, narrowed Liverpool’s lead at the top after the 2-0 win and the second-place Gunners are seven points behind the Reds.

Speaking on Amazon Prime Video, Dimitar Berbatov suggested that Ruben Amorim must have been questioning what was happening with Andre Onana in the match.

He claimed that Amorim would feel that the Red Devils “need to work” on their defence against set pieces, with Berbatov also taking a cheeky swipe at Arsenal.

“Probably the Premier League is the only league in the world where you have so many players around the goalkeeper, pushing, shoving, making chaos,” Berbatov said.

“Normally it is going to be a foul. Not here. You need to be strong. And that’s probably why he [Amorim] was watching from the side, he was like, ‘What is going on with my keeper?’ You need to work on that.

“As we joke, Arsenal is the new Stoke City, right? Depending on set-pieces, which can give you the win, as it was today.”

Amorim on Arsenal set pieces vs Man Utd

Speaking after the 2-0 defeat at the Emirates, Amorim insisted that it was a “shame” that United were exposed by set pieces amid Arsenal “not playing very well.”

“They are very good because they have a lot of time working on that,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“Especially on that, they have big players for that, so it is a strategy, and we had two weeks to work on that.

“We tried to do it but we know every team in the Premier League is suffering with set pieces.

“It was a shame because we were not playing very well but also Arsenal was not playing very well.”
