Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher delivered a clear-cut verdict over whether or not Manchester United were denied a penalty against Manchester City.
The Red Devils stunned Manchester City at the Etihad with a late 2-1 Premier League comeback win on Sunday evening.
Manchester United went into half-time 1-0 down against City after Josko Gvardiol connected with Kevin De Bruyne’s cross and smashed his header past Andre Onana.
However, Ruben Amorim’s men turned the tide back in their favour late in the second half after Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot-kick in the 88th minute.
Amad Diallo, who won the penalty that Bruno Fernandes scored from, then netted only two minutes later and sealed all three Premier League points for United.
United have only managed six league wins in 16 Premier League matches and the Red Devils are currently 13th place in the table.
Ruben Amorim’s side are six points adrift from the Premier League top four and United are five points behind fifth-place City.

Gallagher on Man Utd penalty call
Manchester United fans were furious after referee Anthony Taylor denied the Red Devils a penalty after Rasmus Hojlund was brought down in the second half.
Ruben Dias appeared to put his leg in front of the United striker, but the Red Devils’ calls for a penalty were waved away at the Etihad.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, Dermot Gallagher was asked for his verdict on how Anthony Taylor handled the situation and denied United a penalty.
He admitted that he did not think it was a penalty and the challenge from Ruben Dias on Rasmus Hojlund “looks so much worse in slow motion.”
“I still do not think it is a penalty – the defender goes to play the ball, Hojlund sees him coming and goes over himself and it looks so much worse in slow motion – he was happy to go down rather than be interested in chasing the ball,” Gallagher said.
Amorim looks ahead for Man Utd
United will now switch their attention to the Carabao Cup for their quarter-final clash with Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening.
Speaking after the Manchester derby, United manager Ruben Amorim insisted that the Carabao Cup is a competition he wants to win with the Red Devils.
“No matter what happens, we have to continue the same,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“It’s a special day for us but, tomorrow, it’s over and we focus on the next game. It’s a competition we want to win.”
