When it comes to playing as a full-back, Denis Irwin is as expert as they come.
So it is welcome that the treble winning ex Manchester United star has given his seal of approval to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s early performances.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Irwin explained why he has been so impressed with the £50 million summer signing.
Irwin said: “His positional sense looks really, really good.
“That’s a huge surprise for someone that’s been a winger for years. He’s got a lot to learn obviously but he’s been a huge plus this year.
“We need to start keeping clean sheets again but I think we’ve started making steps in the right direction in helping in our defensive work, I really do.”

Fresh concern
Wan-Bissaka yesterday pulled out of the England squad with an injury, BBC Sport reported.
The Mail claim he has been carrying a back injury which will require careful management and extra rest between games.
He is still expected to be fit for United’s home game with Leicester City on September 14.
Even so, it is a concern especially with Luke Shaw out at left-back and unlikely to be back to face the Foxes. With Diogo Dalot also out at the moment, we can’t afford for Wan-Bissaka to miss time as well.
As Irwin points out, United have kept only one clean sheet despite Wan-Bissaka’s impressive performances.
Wan-Bissaka missing England’s games is not so much of a concern to us, but it is a disappointment to the United star, as he was in line to make his senior debut.
There will be opportunities in the future, lets just hope his injury clears up and United can manage him sensibly.
