It is three years since Bruno Fernandes sealed his transfer from Sporting to Manchester United.

The Portuguese midfielder was the signing United needed back in January 2020, and he made an immediate impact for the club.

It was thanks to Fernandes’ superb form after arriving that United were able to clinch a Champions League spot that season, and he has become an instant fan favourite.

Fernandes has more than 100 goal contributions for Manchester United, and plans to stick around for a lot longer, signing a new contract extension last year.

Bruno Fernandes celebrates three years at Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes has now completed three years as a Manchester United player. He is currently captaining the side regularly, and is a must-pick under manager Erik ten Hag.

He has been in particularly strong form lately, scoring in three of his last five matches.

Celebrating the anniversary of his time at Old Trafford, Fernandes posted a video to Instagram, with an accompanying message.

It read: “3 years together and many more to come. Thanks for the warm welcome and the love and support showed by all the fans since then until now.”

Fernandes is as popular with his teammates as he is with supporters, and a number of them responded to his message on Instagram.

Among them was Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea, who lauded Fernandes as a ‘magnifico’, in respect for his outstanding contribution since signing for the club.

Now wearing the Manchester United number 8 shirt previously worn by De Gea’s close pal Juan Mata, Fernandes is clearly a player the goalkeeper has a similar respect for.

Fernandes has been a key part of United’s form this season, second behind only Marcus Rashford for combined goals and assists.

As the player himself notes, there are going to be a lot more special moments to come, hopefully with trophies to cap off his fine work.
