England legend David Beckham has waxed lyrical about one fellow Manchester United legend who was able to do “things that not many players can do.”
David Beckham shot to superstardom during his prolific run at Old Trafford and lifted six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and two FA Cups.
The 49-year-old former Manchester United star broke into the Red Devils’ first team in the 1990s under Sir Alex Ferguson after climbing the ranks of the youth academy.
Beckham was a devastating winger during his illustrious spell at United and the former Red Devils player played a key role in the iconic treble win in 1999.
One of the famed ‘Class of ‘92’ stars, Beckham made 392 appearances for United and he scored 85 times and registered 121 assists for the Red Devils.
Beckham saw his relationship with former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson fracture towards the end of his playing spell at Old Trafford.
The United legend, who is one of the club’s famed No 7s, would leave the Red Devils in 2003 and complete a sensational transfer to Real Madrid.

Beckham on ‘special’ Man Utd legend
David Beckham lifted a La Liga title with Real Madrid before he signed for LA Galaxy in 2007, with the former England captain spending two spells on loan at AC Milan.
The former Manchester United player saw out the remainder of his career at Paris Saint-Germain during a brief spell and he hung up his football boots in 2013.
Beckham was recently featured in the fourth series of BBC’s ‘Legends of Welsh Sport’ and he talked up the influence of fellow United legend Mark Hughes.
Mark Hughes came through the United academy and made a name for himself during the 1980s before he left Old Trafford and moved to La Liga outfit Barcelona.
The 61-year-old former United attacker had a brief spell at Barcelona, including a loan spell at Bayern Munich, before he made his return to the Red Devils in 1988.
Hughes enjoyed a prolific second spell at Old Trafford and scooped up major silverware under former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Beckham spoke affectionately about Hughes and admitted that the United legend’s ability to score in the “big” matches made him so “special.”
“I was always one of those little fans that used to wait outside and get Mark’s and all their autographs,” he said in BBC’s ‘Mark Hughes: Redemption,’ which debuted on BBC iPlayer on Tuesday.
“Mark did things that not many players can do. The goalkeeper would kick it 50, 60, 70 yards up and it would just stop dead on those thighs of his. My mum loved his thighs!
“He was one of those players that always scored great goals in big games. That’s why Mark was so special. I think that’s why Man United fans still love him – they still sing his name.”
Beckham on Hughes’ Man Utd shirt number
Mark Hughes lifted two Premier League titles, a European Cup Winners’ Cup, three FA Cups and a League Cup during his two spells at United.
The former Barcelona and United player is deeply connected with the No 10 shirt at Old Trafford and Beckham followed in his footsteps by wearing it in his career.
Ferguson handed Beckham the shirt number of his United hero for the 1996-97 season and the former England star was in awe of Hughes’ impact on him.
Speaking on Hughes, Beckham said: “The boss turned round to me and he said, ‘Son, you’re going to wear No 10 this year.’ And I was like, ‘That’s Mark’s number!’
“There’s certain players that played for United over the years that set the tone of the club.
“We were able to learn from players like Mark. And that’s why Mark is part of Manchester United’s history.”
