Iconic former Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson paid the ultimate tribute to one “special” Manchester United legend who had an “unbelievable” run at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been out of the managerial dugout since 2013 after his incredible reign at Manchester United finally came to an end.

Widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time, the 83-year-old Scotsman had a sensational impact in England with United and in Scotland with Aberdeen.

Ferguson engineered all 13 of United’s Premier League title wins and was the first manager in history to lead an English team to a continental treble.

During his time at Old Trafford, the United legend also lifted two Champions League trophies, five FA Cups and four League Cups as Red Devils manager.

Ferguson has remained an ever-present figure at Old Trafford long after he led United to their last Premier League title in the 2012-13 campaign.

Man Utd legend Ferguson on ‘fantastic person’

Sir Alex Ferguson was among the roster of high-profile names who attended the funeral of beloved former Manchester United employee Kath Phipps.

Kath Phipps was the longstanding receptionist at the Premier League club and had spent more than 55 years at United.

She passed away at the age of 85 in December 2024 and both past and present United players paid tribute after her death.

The funeral for Phipps was held on Monday and United players, managers and staff, both past and present, attended the service at Manchester Cathedral.

Phipps arrived at United when legendary former manager Sir Matt Busby was at the club and Ferguson spoke highly about her incredible service for the Red Devils.

When asked about Phipps as a United legend, Ferguson told BBC Sport: “Without question, 55 years!

“I did 26 and I thought that was unbelievable. She was a fantastic person and I was really glad that all the players turned up.

“That was a brilliant moment and she would appreciate that.”

Ferguson praises Man Utd legend Phipps

Ruben Amorim and the players from the United first-team squad were spotted arriving at Manchester Cathedral for the service of Phipps on Monday.

Ferguson spoke to the press about Phipps and the Aberdeen and United legend called her a “real United person” through and through.

“She was a special person, she loved people,” he said.

“The thing that comes out of that is you look at her life and you can’t think of a moment when you can say she didn’t enjoy her life.

“She was a real United person.”
