Darren Fletcher has been pleased with his Manchester United side after a strong performance against Burnley, with one player in line for individual praise.

Amid a week of uncertainty and managerial upheaval, Manchester United drew 2-2 with Burnley on Wednesday night at Turf Moor.

It was a successful debut in the dugout for United’s current interim Darren Fletcher, with the Red Devils deserving a big win and only being held by the woodwork twice.

Burnley’s goals were one from a big deflection, while the second was a sublime and unstoppable finish.

Shea Lacey almost scored a wondergoal for United, but ultimately it wasn’t to be, with the spoils shared. After the game, Fletcher has picked out one player for heavy praise.

Darren Fletcher praises Benjamin Sesko performance vs Burnley

This season hasn’t been great for Benjamin Sesko, struggling since his £66m move from RB Leipzig.

However, Wednesday saw the Slovenia international double his goal tally, scoring a brace with two excellent striker’s goals that should skyrocket his confidence.

After the game, Fletcher talked with the press, as quoted by Hayters, picking out Sesko for praise.

“I sat down with him yesterday and showed him videos of his movement, as you said, and how the opportunities are going to come”, Fletcher explained.

“He has to just keep believing, keep making the runs. The rest of the team have to look for him more as well, and like with all strikers, once you get that first goal, you hit the back of the net, it builds your confidence, and hopefully they start flooding in from there.

“I think everyone can see his qualities. I thought he was fantastic tonight. I thought he led the line really well, and maybe he could have gone on and had a hat-trick as well.

Benjamin Sesko has just make Tim Sherwood eat his words!

“So it’s a real positive night for him and definitely probably the biggest positive from the night really is his two goals and hopefully that’s good for Manchester United’s future.”

With his goals, Sesko finally had a smile on his face, getting more shots on target against Burnley than anyone in the league has managed in a single game all season.

However, he will know he should have scored more.

Sesko could explode into life for Manchester United in new system

Sesko has been among the most heavily criticised players at Manchester United this season, with his lack of goals putting a real spotlight on him.

However, in the 4-2-3-1 system implemented by Fletcher, the number 30 had more support and got more involved in the game, making 40 touches.

This resulted in seven shots on target, more than half of Rasmus Hojlund’s 2024/25 Premier League total of 32.

Sesko will only get better at United, with it clear that Amorim’s system was isolating the Slovenian and dooming him to fail.

The future looks very bright for Sesko.
