Danish media spots problem with Man Utd’s Patrick Dorgu against Scotland, he needs to improve

Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu scored for Denmark against Scotland but it wasn’t enough to secure a World Cup spot.

Denmark will have to return in March for a World Cup play-off match to decide whether or not Patrick Dorgu and Co. will head to the 2026 tournament.

A dramatic 4-2 defeat to Scotland means that Denmark finished second in Group C. Scott McTominay scored a sensational bicycle kick to help the hosts to victory.

Rasmus Hojlund and Dorgu scored for Denmark and it looked as though the 21-year-old defender would be his nation’s hero before Scotland scored twice late on.

Patrick Dorgu criticised by Danish media after Scotland loss

Dorgu is in great form for Denmark, and he enjoyed a brilliant performance earlier in the week against Belarus despite only getting a 2-2 draw.

Manager Brian Riemer has been full of praise for Dorgu, and he trusted the United defender to start in their crucial qualifying match against Scotland. The Danish media spotted a few flaws in his performance.

Danish outlet TV2 gave Dorgu a 4/10 rating despite finding the back of the net. It was pointed out that he needs to improve his crossing.

“A mixed performance from Dorgu. He was a few minutes away from becoming a Danish superhero and was somewhat better defensively than against Belarus. But there were also far too many bad crosses from favorable positions.”

DR described Dorgu as “Defensively challenged, but offensively competent.”

They added: “It was clear that the Scots had chosen his area as a place to attack – and it was also from that side that the assist for the 1-0 goal came. Dorgu, however, played his part in the match and contributed a lot to putting pressure forward.”

Patrick Dorgu can now resume Man United contest

Now that the November international break is over, Dorgu can return to Manchester and refocus on working his way into Ruben Amorim’s starting line-up.

The young Dane has only started one of the past five Premier League matches, with Diogo Dalot preferred at left wing-back.

Now that Lisandro Martinez is back fit, Luke Shaw could become another contender for the wing-back spot.

Dorgu is still young, but he will want to play regularly. With a crucial World Cup play-off match now on the horizon, he has even more motivation to build up momentum.
