Danish media share more Rasmus Hojlund concern, react to Patrick Dorgu’s red card in Manchester United win

Manchester United beat Ipswich Town 3-2 on Wednesday night but Patrick Dorgu had a night to forget at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim was seeking an important home win after watching Manchester United draw 2-2 with Everton on Saturday.

United fought back from 2-0 down to claim a point at Goodison Park and had to show those qualities once again as Ipswich Town visited on Tuesday night.

Ipswich took an early lead in ridiculous fashion as Jaden Philogene profited from a terrible mix-up between Andre Onana and Patrick Dorgu.

Sam Morsy’s own goal and Matthijs de Ligt’s finish put United 2-1 up before Dorgu’s night went from bad to worse, picking up a red card.

Philogene scored again shortly after Dorgu’s dismissal, only for Harry Maguire’s header to hand 10-man United all three points.

Danish media react to Patrick Dorgu red card

United again showed battling qualities for the second time in a matter of days, overcoming adversity to claim a result.

Amorim must be delighted with United’s resolve but must now do without Patrick Dorgu.

Dorgu’s suspension will see him miss three United games and Wednesday will go down as a night to forget.

Not only was Dorgu sent off, but his mistake – for which Onana was also at fault – gave United a dreadful start.

Amorim will be looking for Dorgu to respond to this setback and the Danish media have offered their view on his performance.

BT in Denmark rated Dorgu’s performance at just one out of six, suggesting that he made a ‘terrible impression’ on the game.

They branded Dorgu’s two mistakes ‘horrible’ and highlighted that his red card had ‘immediate consequences’ for United.

“Two horrible actions from Patrick Dorgu leave a terrible impression. After just four minutes, the 20-year-old international gets an unintentional assist when he plays an Ipswich player completely free in front of an empty United goal.

“But things would turn out worse for the young United player. He bursts into a studs-first tackle, leaving Darren England, the match referee, with no choice. A straight red card.

“Ipswich scores a few minutes later, and Dorgu’s mistake has immediate consequences for the United team,” they added.

Danish media concerned by Rasmus Hojlund again

Dorgu was not the only Dane in action for United as Rasmus Hojlund started up top once again.

Hojlund has now gone 17 games without a goal in all competitions and struggled once again on Wednesday night.

The Danish media were concerned about Hojlund after his display against Tottenham Hotspur and those fears have continued.

BT again rated Hojlund at one out of six, suggesting that he was ‘completely invisible’ against Ipswich.

They added that Hojlund must turn in better performances soon – or United will replace him.

“He has not scored in the last eleven Premier League games and once again he is completely invisible,” they wrote. “The pitch is slippery, and there are several sequences where the lump play should have benefited the physically strong striker. But he never becomes dangerous – and does not contribute to tying the game together.

“Poor performance from the Dane, who will soon have to prove something before United will most likely sign a new striker this summer. Rasmus Højlund is taken off after 66 minutes, after a disappointing performance,” they added.

Dorgu and Hojlund are two of Denmark’s top talents for the future and the national media there ultimately want both to thrive and develop.

Hojlund is really struggling but January signing Dorgu has impressed so far and we can only hope that Wednesday night was a pure aberration for the left wing back.
