Manchester United youngsters Dan Gore and Omari Forson have been called up into the newly named England Men’s Elite squad.
England have renamed the Under-20 squad to be Men’s Elite squad, ahead of upcoming games against Romania and Portugal.
What is the Elite League
The Elite League is a round-robin format which England are competing in with seven other nations.
Interim head coach Joe Edwards told England’s website: “The tournament itself is in its infancy but the idea behind it ensures that there are opportunities for those players who fall outside of the traditional MU17 and MU19 age groups.
“There has been this gap between the MU19s and the MU21s – who obviously have regular tournaments to look forward to – that needed filling, and this tournament will help in that process.”
All of these fixtures are viewed as ‘competitive’, giving young players game time which is not just friendly games. The league runs over international breaks during the 2023/24 season.
England face Romania away from home in Bucharest on October 12 and then host Portugal in Milton Keynes on October 17.
Omari Forson and Dan Gore deserve call-up
Omari Forson and Dan Gore are the two Manchester United players named in the England Elite squad.
The duo are fully deserving, having made great strides at academy level this season, even joining up wit the first team.
Gore made his first team debut for Manchester United last month in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace, while Forson joined him on the bench in the Champions League against Bayern Munich.
Last week Gore scored a superb solo goal for Manchester United’s under-21 side, while Forson has scored at a prolific pace.
In six games Forson has six goals, plus a further two assists to his name.
