Cavani sends Instagram message after another Copa America goal

Manchester United’s stars endured a mixed night in their international competitions yesterday.

David de Gea was an unused substitute as his native Spain won a thrilling clash with Croatia 5-3 in the last 16 at Euro 2020.

He might have expected to run into Paul Pogba’s France there, but they were dumped out on penalties by Switzerland in the biggest shock of the tournament so far.

But the Euros isn’t the only major tournament taking place this summer. Edinson Cavani is currently in Copa America action with Uruguay.

Last night, he netted the only goal of the game as Uruguay beat Paraguay 1-0 from the penalty spot after 21 minutes before posting a message to the fans on Instagram.

That win means Uruguay leapfrogged Paraguay into second place. Both sides still qualified for the next round.

Cavani is now one of a clutch of players on two goals for the tournament, chasing down Neymar who is top scorer so far with three.

On Thursday, he netted the second goal in a 2-0 victory over Bolivia.

Who will Uruguay play in the next round?

Last night’s win means Uruguay have set up a quarter-final clash with Peru on Friday night.

That game kicks off at 10pm UK time, by which time de Gea will know if he’s a Euro 2020 semi-finalist with Spain.

Uruguay made a slow start to the tournament, with a 1-0 loss to Argentina followed up by a 1-1 draw with Chile.

But Cavani has helped fire them to two wins in two games, and will fancy his chances against Peru later this week.
