Any suggestions that Edinson Cavani was coming to Manchester United to take the money and see out his career have already been dispelled.
The Uruguayan is still fighting fit and his attitude in every game is an example to every one of his teammates.
He hasn’t been at United long or played in front of a full Old Trafford yet but that hasn’t stopped Cavani enjoying a moment in a red shirt that he’ll never forget.
Cavani told the club’s official website that Tuesday’s 9-0 victory over Southampton will be ‘etched on his memory’.
“Throughout my career so far, I’ve seen games like this, and I’ve featured in one or two goal fests,” said Cavani.
“There was one game I was involved in at PSG, against Troyes, where we won, I think it was either nine or ten nil.
“These are the things that football throws up from time to time. Things that you get the chance to experience and which surely remain etched in your memory as a sportsperson.”
Cavani netted the fourth goal on Tuesday night and would have fancied his chances of grabbing more if he wasn’t replaced at half time.
He was carrying an ankle injury and was sensibly withdrawn by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with the game comfortably won.
Cavani will be crucial now the business end of the season is here, with trophies on the line.
Hopefully he can enjoy more moments with United which will stay with him even once he’s retired.
And with any luck, some of them will come in front of the fans who have already been so impressed with his movement and workrate.
