Casemiro says proving Ruben Amorim wrong is one of the greatest achievements of his career

Ruben Amorim was very critical of Casemiro during his time as Manchester United boss and it seemed to spark a fire in the Brazilian midfielder.

By Ruben Amorim’s own admission, Casemiro was once behind Toby Collyer in his midfield pecking order at Manchester United.

“He was behind every midfielder, even Toby (Collyer), now he is back,” Amorim said. Now, Casemiro is in the highest-scoring season of his career and is being begged to stay at Old Trafford by United fans.

Casemiro’s revival has been immense, and he is leaving United as a cult hero when his contract expires in the summer.

Casemiro has enjoyed proving Ruben Amorim wrong

Since being criticised by Amorim, Casemiro has been one of United’s best players and he has formed a brilliant connection with Michael Carrick since his appointment.

Speaking to TNT Sports Brasil, Casemiro has admitted that making Amorim change his mind was one of the “biggest achievements” of his career.

“This could be one of the most important victories, one of the biggest achievements, of my career,” Casemiro said of his United revival.

“Even though there was a coach who didn’t count on me, who said certain things, and now has to admit he was wrong because he’s seen it for himself.

“Like I’ve said before, I could easily have dropped my head and thought: ‘If he thinks that, then fine—I don’t need to keep working. I already have the titles I’ve won, life goes on.’

“But no. I always wanted to play for this club and show here that I was capable. To prove to the fans that I’m a player worthy of this club. That’s always been who I am, and I’ve always tried to show that here.

“So one of the biggest achievements of my career has definitely been this comeback, changing a coach’s opinion. A coach who didn’t count on you, who said I lacked intensity, and now, even he has said that he changed his mind after seeing me in training and in matches. He said that himself.

“So yes, this can absolutely be considered one of the biggest achievements of my career.”

Casemiro has left a Man Utd legacy

During his four-year stay with United, Casemiro has managed to silence all of his haters.

Jamie Carragher was horribly wrong about Casemiro after previously claiming the “football has left him” and that he should retire.

Amorim was also wrong about Casemiro, and the 34-year-old has saved perhaps his best season at Old Trafford until the end.

United fans have chanted for Casemiro to stay, and his farewell in the final home game of the season against Nottingham Forest will be an emotional one.
