Casemiro has dropped a powerful verdict about Brazil teammate Bruno Guimaraes amid the Newcastle midfielder being linked with Manchester United.

Bruno Guimaraes has attracted transfer interest from several clubs alongside Manchester United, including Manchester City, Real Madrid and Arsenal.

The 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder is under contract with Newcastle until 2028 and has impressed during his spell at St James’ Park after his arrival from Lyon.

Newcastle are keen to keep hold of Guimaraes and the Magpies have slapped a price tag of around £60.8m to fend off rival interest in the Brazil international.

Man Utd midfielder Casemiro has tipped Bruno Guimaraes to follow in his footsteps as Brazil captain

Casemiro, who will leave Old Trafford in the summer, will lead Brazil as captain for the World Cup in North America, with Bruno Guimaraes likely to play a key role as well.

The 34-year-old Manchester United midfielder has only three Premier League matches left in his spell before his contract with the Red Devils expires in June.

Speaking to TNT Sports Brasil, Casemiro admitted that he has been deeply impressed by Guimaraes’ influence at Newcastle in the Premier League.

The five-time Champions League winner has also backed the Man Utd-linked Guimaraes to follow in his footsteps by becoming Brazil skipper in the future.

“Bruno is incredible, there’s no doubt about it,” Casemiro said.

“Bruno is very good. Bruno is incredible. And for me, from the next generation, he’s the guy who will take over that captain role, the guy who will start taking on that leadership.

“He’s Newcastle’s captain and has been having incredible seasons in the Premier League.”

Casemiro talks up the important role that he expects Man Utd-linked Bruno Guimaraes to play for Brazil

Casemiro was called back up to the Brazil national team under Carlo Ancelotti, who had worked closely with the Man Utd midfielder during his reign at Real Madrid.

The former Los Blancos star played a role in ensuring Brazil’s World Cup qualification and he feels that Guimaraes is a core part of the team’s identity in the future.

“So, he’s someone who will take on that leadership,” Casemiro continued.

“Among the players after my generation — me, Marquinhos, Danilo, Alisson, even Neymar himself, who we still don’t know whether he’ll continue or not, Ederson too, who’s more on that side with us, as I say, sitting at the same table, right?

“Alex Sandro too, players with more experience — Bruno is one of those players. Bruno, together with Raphinha, for me are among the players who will take on the captaincy of the national team, because of everything they represent.”

Brazil will play Panama and Egypt in June friendlies ahead of Carlo Ancelotti’s men kicking off their World Cup campaign against Morocco in their Group C clash.
