Bruno Fernandes gives his verdict on Man United star’s Galatasaray nightmare

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has given his verdict on Andre Onana’s catastrophic error in the 3-3 draw against Galatasaray.

It was a stunning effort from Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes which doubled the Red Devils’ lead in the contest and they looked to be on their way to a famous victory, their first in three visits to Istanbul in the Champions League.

However, a mistake from Andre Onana, arguably from both free-kick goals, allowed Galatasaray to come back into the game which eventually led to the Turkish side rescuing a point from the encounter.

Paul Scholes was not happy with Onana after the performance and some members of the United fanbase were also, understandably, frustrated and so was Fernandes.

Speaking to ESPN after the game in Istanbul, the United captain was asked about the Cameroon international’s performance on the night.

“He knows how to deal with these moments,” Fernandes said. “He has to do better on the pitch as we all do. We should have done more to get a better result.

“It’s not just because of him that we got this negative result. We all have to take responsibility for what we do, me first.”

The Cameroon international will be the first to admit that the mistake he made in Turkey was not good enough and Onana has to do more, after what had been a positive month for the 27-year-old.

Fernandes’ captain’s performance

The Portuguese international was a shining light for the Red Devils as his goal and assist should have been enough for the Red Devils to pick up a victory in Istanbul.

Despite being responsible for both fouls leading to the Galatasaray goals, which drew the ire of Paul Scholes, the captain was superb throughout the game and should have seen his side come out of the game with the three points.

Having a firing Fernandes playing in midfield is exactly what this United team have missed out on and the former Sporting Lisbon star refusing to criticise Onana shows his maturity as a captain off the pitch.
