Paul Scholes was frustrated with ‘stupid’ aspect of Bruno Fernandes’ performance against Galatasaray

Paul Scholes was frustrated with an aspect of Bruno Fernandes’ game following Manchester United’s disappointing 3-3 draw against Galatasaray.

The draw pretty much seals Manchester United’s fate in the Champions League and their qualification out of the group is no longer in their hands. Beating Bayern Munich and hoping for the best is all Erik ten Hag and his team can do on matchday six.

Bruno Fernandes scored a screamer for United but the goal, which was right out of the top draw, was in vain as the Red Devils threw away a two-goal lead twice.

The midfielder looked to be doing his best to get United the victory but a combination of mistakes and bad finishing meant the Red Devils could only draw.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Paul Scholes was not very happy with one aspect of the Portuguese midfielder’s game which he described as ‘stupid’.

“When they’re 2-0 up or 3-1 up you’ve got to believe that this is a game that has to be won comfortably,” Scholes said. “Once again, away from home, United crumble.

“They just cannot keep clean sheets for whatever reason, defensively they’re all over the place. The goalkeeper is making silly mistakes. Bruno (Fernandes), as I say, making stupid, crazy fouls, it just makes the game mayhem every time and there is no need to do that.”

The Portuguese midfielder was the culprit who committed these fouls on the edge of the box for Galatasaray to score their first and second goals but blaming the United captain is a ridiculous statement from Scholes.

Fernandes can hold his head high

Perhaps one of the very few players who can hold his head high after the performance in Turkey is Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder had a goal and an assist and was unlucky not to win the game for the Red Devils late on.

His rifled effort left Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera no chance and nearly repeated the trick but his shot from outside the box, this time, struck the post.

Fernandes is one of the best at picking the right pass at the right time but his teammates let him down massively as Anthony Martial had a huge chance to square the ball to the Portuguese midfielder to win the game but the French forward fluffed his lines.

Over these past two games, Fernandes has really stepped up to the mark for the Red Devils and will be needed again in a must-win game against Newcastle United.
