Bruno Fernandes didn’t think twice about naming one legendary former player as the best midfielder of all time ahead of Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.

Paul Scholes is widely regarded as one of the best players of all time in the Premier League and one of the best midfielders in the history of football.

The 50-year-old rose through the ranks of the Manchester United youth academy in the 1990s as one of the famed ‘Class of ‘92’ stars at Old Trafford.

Scholes became a key United first-team player under legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and he hoovered up the major silverware in his prolific career.

The United legend lifted 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, three FA Cups and two League Cups with the Red Devils.

Scholes spent his entire United playing spell under Sir Alex Ferguson and the former United midfielder called it time on his legendary career in 2013.

The former England international was part of the last United team to lift the Premier League title in the 2012-13 campaign before Ferguson’s retirement from football.

Bruno Fernandes left Man Utd legend Paul Scholes out of his main pick for the ‘GOAT’ midfielder

Speaking to TNT Sports, Bruno Fernandes took part in a series of questions and the Manchester United captain was asked to name the best midfielder ever.

The 30-year-old United and Portugal star left Paul Scholes out of the conversation and revealed that Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta would be his midfield ‘GOAT.’

When asked about the best midfield duo of all time, Fernandes once again singled out Andres Iniesta for his midfield partnership with Barcelona icon Xavi.

The United skipper also named Cristiano Ronaldo as the best Portuguese player of all time and Sir Alex Ferguson as the best manager in the history of football.

Why did Bruno Fernandes pick Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta as the best midfielder of all time?

Fernandes has previously opened up on the major impact that Spain and Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta had on his playing style as a midfielder.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website in 2020, he said: “The one I liked to watch and follow was Iniesta because Iniesta is a mix between an eight and a 10.

“It is a way I can do better, between eight and 10.

“It is the guy who always likes to have the ball, who always likes to take the risks, and I think Iniesta was one of the best in the world.

“For me, it was impressive how Iniesta finished his career without the Ballon d’Or [award]. With everything he won, it is difficult for me to understand!”

Fernandes has remained as influential as ever at Old Trafford in the current campaign and he has scored 16 times and registered 16 assists in 46 matches.
