Bruno Fernandes has ruled out trying to replicate a Cristiano Ronaldo milestone at Old Trafford after his impactful season with Manchester United.

The 31-year-old Manchester United captain has only one Premier League match left to break the record for the most league assists in a single season.

Bruno Fernandes moved alongside Kevin de Bruyne and Thierry Henry for the current Premier League assist record after United’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

The Portugal international chalked up his 20th assist last Sunday after Fernandes set up Bryan Mbeumo in the second half of the Man Utd vs Nottingham Forest match.

Bruno Fernandes responds to the Ballon d’Or shout after Cristiano Ronaldo won France Football’s prize at Man Utd

Cristiano Ronaldo is only one of four Manchester United players to have ever lifted the prized Ballon d’Or award while playing for the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

The 41-year-old Al Nassr and Portugal captain captured the first of his five Ballon d’Ors during his iconic United spell under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo was namechecked to Bruno Fernandes during an interview with Sky Sports, with the Man Utd skipper asked if he had his eyes on France Football’s award.

Fernandes insisted that he would always welcome individual awards in his career, but the Portugal midfielder added that his focus has always been different.

“No, as I said before, my aim is always to win trophies and to get collective awards,” he said.

“Obviously, when the individual ones come, it’s amazing. It’s a privilege. It’s an honour because it means that you’re doing something right.

“You’re doing some good things and I don’t put myself in anything of that because it’s not on me to vote or to decide or whatever.

“So, whoever wins it is always a fair winner.”

Bruno Fernandes has been rewarded on an individual front in the 2025-26 campaign after his Man Utd season so far

Fernandes has captured a record-tying fifth Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award during his Man Utd spell after his superb impact for the Red Devils this season.

The former Sporting CP midfielder is now tied with United legends Ronaldo and David de Gea for the most Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year wins at the club.

Fernandes also bagged another major prize after he was named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year ahead of Erling Haaland and Declan Rice.

The United and Portugal star has been tipped to challenge for the Premier League Player of the Season award against the likes of Arsenal star Declan Rice.
