Brighton boss reveals his squad has one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s favourite players, he troubled Man Utd

Ruben Amorim’s worst fears were realised as Brighton rocked up at Old Trafford and continued the trend of turning over Manchester United with minimal fuss.

Brighton’s 3-1 win continues their dominance over Man Utd in recent years and the most worrying thing is that the visitors fully deserved it.

Yes, United weren’t helped by the referee, and mistakes from Andre Onana and Noussair Mazraoui made United’s task uphill, but the overall performance left a lot to be desired.

To add insult to injury, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler said after the game that his squad contained one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s favourite players, one who troubled United in the game.

Fabian Hurzeler’s Sir Alex Ferguson claim

Hurzeler has quickly emerged as one of the league’s most promising coaches and as the youngest one too, he’s got limitless potential.

He’s taken to Brighton like a duck to water and continued the Seagulls’ trend of being United’s bogey team, now under multiple managers.

Hurzeler revealed after the game that he recently met with Sir Alex Ferguson and unsurprisingly, had glowing words to say about the Man Utd legend.

In the process, he revealed that Brighton house one of Sir Alex’s favourite players, striker Danny Welbeck, who troubled United in the 3-1 win.

Hurzeler said: “Very special, in my squad is one of his favourite players (Danny Welbeck). We had a small exchange several weeks ago. One of the best coaches ever.”

He added, speaking to Brighton’s website: “Sir Alex Ferguson asked me take care of Danny Welbeck, who worked with him at United and so I will have to do that.

Danny Welbeck sums up Man Utd’s flawed transfer policy

Welbeck has become somewhat of a United nightmare ever since he left the club, be it during his Arsenal days or his time with Brighton now, where he regularly haunts his former club.

The United academy product generally scores too, but even though it didn’t happen this game, he was a nuisance all game with his selfless running and intelligence of movements.

He kept the United defence on its toes all game and the difference in the intangibles between him and the flailing Man Utd squad summed up United’s flawed transfer policy.

Welbeck joins a long list of players who have flourished after leaving the malaise of Old Trafford, something that’s still happening, for example, Scott McTominay thriving at Napoli.

United have chased shiny new toys in the market instead of relying on the academy and the flawless intangibles they bring to the team, something that Amorim needs to address.

In an ideal world, Sir Alex Ferguson’s favourite players should be playing for Man Utd, not hurting them every time they come up against his club.
