Manchester United loanee Ethan Laird is yet to make his Bournemouth debut and continues to build up his fitness on the training ground.
But after the Cherries made a trio of loan signings on deadline day, the right-back’s game time at the Vitality Stadium could be hampered due to EFL rules.
EFL rules state that clubs cannot select more than five loan players in a matchday squad.
In full, the ruling states: “A maximum of 5 Players registered on a Temporary Loan Transfer can be named in the Players listed on a Team Sheet for any individual match played under the auspices of The League.”
Bournemouth boss Scott Parker currently has six loan players in his first team, meaning the 41-year-old will have to omit at least one loanee in each game for the rest of the season.
Deadline day loan additions Todd Cantwell, Freddie Woodman and Nat Phillips have joined Laird, Leif Davis and Morgan Rogers as the south coast club’s temporary players.

Laird had been struggling with an “unspecified knock” after arriving at the Cherries on loan, for the remainder of the season, last month.
Although the 20-year-old did pick up a thigh injury in his last appearance for Swansea City, against Nottingham Forest on December 11.
Speaking to the BournemouthEcho about Laird last week, Parker said: “Ethan Laird is moving in the right direction.
“I’m hoping we might see him in the FA Cup or he’ll be available for Birmingham (on February 9).”
The Cherries face non-league Boreham Wood in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.
Laird, who was on loan at Swansea for the first half of the campaign, will be competing with Jack Stacey for the right-back role. The 25-year-old has started the last 17 Championship games.
But with Cantwell, Woodman and Phillips, who all have experience of playing in the Premier League, likely to be guaranteed a place in Parker’s matchday squad, Laird could find himself challenging with Davis and Rogers for the other two places.
Fellow full-back Davis, on loan from Leeds, has made 12 appearances for Bournemouth so far this season, eight of which have been starts.
Whereas Rogers, a winger on loan from Manchester City, has made 17 appearances this season, but he has only started one Championship game.
The Cherries’ late flurry on transfer deadline day has only intensified the competition for places.
But Laird will relish the challenge and be eager to show the qualities he can add to Bournemouth’s promotion charge when given the opportunities on the pitch.
