Former Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy has been lifting the lid on life at Manchester United and the players he holds in high regard.
Manchester United decided to change the coaching staff around in the summer, with Benni McCarthy among the outgoings.
McCarthy worked specifically as United striker coach, but enjoyed a rapport with the entire squad, and had a unique insight into life under Erik ten Hag.
Speaking to Portuguese outlet ZeroZero, McCarthy has picked out the players who impressed him the most.

Benni McCarthy talks up Amad
Benni McCarthy spent the first part of the extended interview discussing Manchester United’s best trainers.
He made a point to pick out Portugal duo Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, explaining that they are the best trainers at Carrington, putting other players to shame.
McCarthy was asked about other players he had admiration for, and named three who stood out, paying particular attention to Amad Diallo, who he believes is still very much a hidden gem.
The South African coach responded: “Lisandro Martinez. He has the passion, the fighting spirit, the personality. He can play for any team in the world because he has the right mentality.
“Besides Lisandro… Marcus Rashford. He’s getting back to his best and could hurt FC Porto with some moves. Finally, Alejandro Garnacho. I really like Garnacho, but he needs to play more regularly. I don’t know if there’s a problem between him and Erik, but he hasn’t been a regular starter.
“Oh, and just one more: Amad Diallo. An incredible, incredible player, still little known.
“He defends and attacks well, always makes the best decisions and knows how to score goals.”
Manchester United still finding best attack
Benni McCarthy asked a question why Alejandro Garnacho is not starting more games, while answering it at the same time.
Erik ten Hag is trying to juggle three players into two positions, Amad, Garnacho, and Rashford.
McCarthy considers those three to be among the very best at the club, and getting the three into the same side has been a difficult task for the manager.
Amad has shown some real quality this season so far, particularly impressive in the win over Southampton, in which he created six goalscoring chances.
His game time has been a little inconsistent since, however, with United’s multitude of options making it difficult to get a full 90 minutes in.
Bringing him back into the starting XI against Porto this week is an option, and a big performance on a European stage like this can help Amad establish himself as one of the club’s truly top players.
