Ruben Amorim is at Manchester United to make history, but there are records the head coach will want to avoid.
The best way to avoid unwanted records as a football coach is by winning matches.
Manchester United haven’t done that enough this season, which consequently led to the sacking of Erik ten Hag last month. The Dutchman was replaced by Ruud van Nistelrooy on an interim basis before Ruben Amorim arrived from Sporting CP.
Now, Amorim is at the wheel and it’s been a mixed start for the Portuguese coach. United have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 2 since the change of management.
Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen came with a sigh of relief as it brought United closer to qualifying for the next stage of the competition. It would have been an almighty setback had the Reds failed to beat their Czechia opposition.

Chris Sutton warns Ruben Amorim ahead of Manchester derby
Amorim has been sent a warning ahead of his first Manchester derby as United head coach.
While Manchester City have dominated United in the league in recent years, Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled to replicate previous form this season and already look like they could be out of the Premier League title race.
Both teams will be desperate for a win, but BBC Sport pundit Sutton is predicting a win for the blue side of Manchester.
Sutton also reveals a worrying statistic Amorim will want to avoid.
“In the recent past, I have always gone with City in Manchester derbies and, while Amorim beat them with Sporting, you have to remember City could have been a few goals up by half-time in that game.
“So, I am going to go with City to win at home and maybe rejuvenate Pep before Christmas.
“Speaking of stats, I have got a good one for you – United never lost three league games in a row in more than two years under Ten Hag, but Amorim will manage that in less than a month if he is beaten here.”
Sutton guilty of twisting Manchester United stat to suit agenda
There are certain pundits who desperately seek publicity from talking about United in a negative manner.
Amorim has already avoided losing three consecutive matches as United recorded a victory over Viktoria Plzen on Thursday night.
Sutton has carefully worded his statement to fit it around Premier League matches.

That said, it’s still a record Amorim wants to avoid having attached to his name because United haven’t lost three league games in a row since 2015, under Louis van Gaal.
It will be a big ask for United to overcome City this weekend. We can’t look too much into City’s form because we’ve been worse.
