Manchester United host Bayern Munich in a crucial Champions League game, needing to win to stand a chance of qualification to the knockout phase.

To stand a chance of making it into the Champions League knockout rounds, Manchester United must beat Bayern Munich.

And then we need to hope Galatasaray and Copenhagen play out a draw in Denmark.

But Erik ten Hag‘s side have no control over that result, and must simply try and beat a fired up Bayern side reeling from a 5-1 loss to Stuttgart.

Jamal Musiala is the player to stop

Star striker Harry Kane is the dangerman, but what Manchester United really have to do is starve the England striker of service.

This means shutting down Jamal Musiala, whose bursts forward through the midfield cut Manchester United apart during their 4-3 win in Munich back in September.

Musiala, 20, has actually had an inconsistent season due to injuries and rotation, but he was chosen to attend the pre-game press conference along with manager Thomas Tuchel.

Musiala on Kobbie Mainoo

Musiala was asked about Manchester United’s own young star, Kobbie Mainoo, who will be in consideration for a starting berth against the German champions.

He responded to say he did not know a lot about the United midfielder, but respects him because of how far he has come already at a young age. Musiala himself left Chelsea as a teenager to pursue a career in Germany.

He told reporters via ManUtd.com: “I haven’t heard much about him but if he is in the Manchester United squad, he must have lots of quality.

“I think for a young player, it is about just having that confidence in yourself. Especially when you are playing with older people and people who have a bit more experience that you get that trust that you are meant to be where you are right now.”

Mainoo is highly respected among the Manchester United squad, and it would not be a surprise to see him in the starting line-up on Tuesday night.

The young United star could be directly tasked with shutting Mainoo down if he plays, and commanding the Red Devils midfield.

Musiala excited to play at Old Trafford

Musiala is looking forward to a potential career highlight, playing at Manchester United’s Old Trafford.

He said: “Old Trafford is definitely a stadium that lots of kids would love to play in.

“There is so much history there and when I was younger, the Old Trafford games always had a good atmosphere.

“I think the atmosphere will be amazing.”
