Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich suffered a 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of United’s crucial Champions League clash next week.

The Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich were soundly beaten in the German league and this may well give Manchester United hope they can get a result against Harry Kane’s side in the Champions League.

Despite Harry Kane excelling against United earlier this season, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker could not influence the game as Eintracht Frankfurt ran out comfortable winners.

The game will be a huge one for Erik ten Hag’s hopes of staying in a job, if United suffer a damaging defeat against Thomas Tuchel’s side, it could spell the end of the Dutchman’s time at the club.

United’s chance

Facing Bayern after they’ve just been hammered by Frankfurt may well be one of the rare times where playing the German side next week may well be the ideal time.

All United can do at Old Trafford is win and hope that FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw otherwise the Red Devils may well be condemned to yet another Europa League campaign.

It will be a tough ask for Ten Hag to beat Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich but the Dutchman has to have the belief in himself that he can beat the German side.

Bayern, as mentioned, shipped five with goals from Omar Marmoush, Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe and Hugo Larsson scoring in the first half for the clinical hosts, with Joshua Kimmich pulling one back before half-time. Dina Ebimbe and Ansgar Knauff netted for Frankfurt after the restart to complete the rout.

Ten Hag’s chance

One way to swing the tide back in his favour would be to beat Bayern Munich and help United advance to the knockout stages of the Champions League but it certainly doesn’t look promising.

The hope will be that Tuchel’s side will have another off day and the fans can carry the Red Devils over the line ahead of a tough month for United.

Ten Hag has to mastermind a victory against the German side next week, one way or another otherwise, Champions League football may be absent from Old Trafford for a year, maybe more.
