Arsene Wenger believes there are more tough times ahead for Manchester United after the latest defeat to Tottenham.
The word ‘relegation’ is beginning to creep back into conversations around Manchester United after yet another Premier League defeat on Sunday afternoon.
United lost 1-0 to Tottenham in North London with James Maddison scoring the only goal. Ruben Amorim faced an injury crisis in the lead-up to the match, meaning seven academy players were named on the bench.
Amorim was only handed one major signing over the January window with Patrick Dorgu arriving for £25m from Lecce. United’s PSR limitations made any other big deals impossible.
With United slumped down in 15th in the Premier League table, it is blindingly clear that new signings are needed, but poor recruitment over the past decade means that will be extremely difficult.

Arsene Wenger says Man United need complete rebuild
There is an exciting batch of young players now on the brink of the first team, but United’s academy stars need more time before making that step up according to Andy Mitten.
First-team signings are desperately needed, but the Red Devils are currently paying the price for the reckless spending in previous windows.
Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told United they need a complete rebuild as the current squad worth over £1bn is not good enough.
Speaking on beIN Sports, Wenger said: “The fans are not happy because it is a team in 14th playing against a team in 15th. You will not find many happy fans on both sides.
“Both teams cost over £1bn, so you would say both basically have the same problem – finding good players to rebuild their team.
“The whole team has to be rebuilt at Tottenham, and at Man United as well and that won’t be easy”.
Ruben Amorim says Man United rebuild is impossible
Amorim has been thrown head-first into an impossible job at Old Trafford, and things might not improve over the summer.
While Wenger has urged United to overhaul their squad, Amorim claims a rebuild is impossible.
“We spent a lot of money in the past and now we have to be careful with the finances so cannot rebuild the team the way we would like,” Amorim said.
Amorim warned fans a “storm will come” and this may only be the beginning. Signings made in the summer will depend on sales, and while there are a handful of players that could leave, United may find it difficult to strike any big-money deals.
With a tight budget expected, Amorim has urged United to improve the academy and the bench against Spurs proved he is willing to put trust in young players.
