Argentina were left frustrated when their well-laid plans to lock up Alejandro Garnacho’s future were placed on hold.
Garnacho, 18, was called into the Argentina squad for the international friendlies and was set to make his debut against either Panama or Curacao.
There is still some anxiety over Garnacho’s future, with the Madrid-born winger also eligible to play for Spain.
A recent injury suffered by the teenager forced Garnacho to pull out of the squad. He is expected to miss several weeks.

Argentina confident over Garnacho
Argentina are still confident that despite the extra wait, Garnacho’s decision to play for the country will not change.
Juan Martín Tassi, Director of AFA International Scouting, told newspaper Ole he is happy with the ongoing conversations with the Manchester United star.
He said: “We have a fluid dialogue with Garnacho and his family. It’s not something of a moment, but something that developed over time.
“He is very happy to be taken into account by the Argentine National Team.
“The case of Garnacho is the product of the work we have been doing, the closeness that we propose on a day-to-day basis made him lean towards Argentina. All this accompaniment is essential and they feel it.”
The newspaper wrote that ‘The Manchester United kid represents the future of the national team’, and that Garnacho was the player fans were most excited to see.
There is another international window set for the summer and Garnacho may get his chance then. Both he and the Argentine national team will be mutually pleased when he finally gets to make his debut.
Erik ten Hag’s focus is on Garnacho recovering for Manchester United, insisting the wonderkid ‘has to be ready’ for the final few weeks of the season.
