Manchester United star Antony might have hinted at his current feelings after the Red Devils’ 2-1 Premier League comeback win against Brentford at Old Trafford.

Antony has failed to make his mark at the Premier League club since Manchester United signed him from Ajax in 2022 for an initial fee of £82m.

The 24-year-old Brazilian winger played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, but Antony has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in the first team at United.

Antony was met with fierce criticism for his form in the 2023-24 campaign for United, with the former Ajax star only scoring three times in 38 appearances.

The United attacker’s struggles continued in the 2024-25 season, with Antony limited to only four appearances across all competitions and only scoring once for the club.

Antony’s message amid Man Utd struggles

Manchester United returned to action on Saturday for the first time since the end of the October break, with the Red Devils hosting Brentford at Old Trafford.

Ethan Pinnock fired Brentford into the lead in first-half injury time before United rallied back in the second half with a stunning performance.

Alejandro Garnacho cancelled out Ethan Pinnock’s opener only two minutes into the second half before Rasmus Hojlund scored the winner in the 62nd minute.

Antony was left as an unused substitute in the 2-1 win over Brentford on the weekend, with the Brazil international left yearning for more first-team minutes.

The United star faces increasing competition for a place out on the right wing, with Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo both ahead of Antony in the pecking order.

Antony took to Instagram Stories after the Brentford match and the Brazilian winger shared a cryptic message with his followers in Portuguese.

“As long as God is my ground, there is nobody who can knock me down,” reads the message as per a translation, with Antony adding a praying emoji.

Ten Hag welcomes Man Utd result

Ten Hag welcomed United returning to winning ways on the weekend and felt the Red Devils showed a “fighting spirit” with their comeback win at Old Trafford.

“We are happy to win the game. It’s important,” he said after the match, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“At United, we have to win games but also to win entertaining and I think everyone was enjoying the afternoon, especially the way it happened.

“We conceded an unfair goal but, in the second half, we showed, as a team, we are together.

“We showed fighting spirit and determination and scored two beautiful goals.”
