Andreas Pereira provides Champions League assist

The final Manchester United player left in the Champions League is out of the competition.

Loanee Andreas Pereira’s Lazio crashed out last night after a 6-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich.

The outcome was more or less decided in the first leg, with Bayern winning 4-0. Lazio gave a better account of themselves last night, only losing 2-1.

Pereira did well, providing the assist for Lazio’s goal. He curled in a free-kick, which Marco Parolo headed into the net.

The Manchester United loanee had come on as a substitute in the 56th minute with the score at 1-0. Bayern made it two, before he set up the consolation.

This was Pereira’s first career Champions League assist, and it was a small moment to be proud about as his side were defeated by a strong Bayern team.

It was Pereira’s third assist of the season. He also has one goal.

What does the future hold?

At the moment it looks fairly unlikely Lazio will retain Pereira, as he has not been able to hold down a place in the side.

A report from ESPN last week claimed both Napoli and Atalanta are both showing interest ahead of the summer, should Lazio not take up the £21 million option-to-buy.

His assist last night against Bayern could help him this summer. It shows clubs what he is capable of, if somebody is willing to offer him a regular role.

Pereira does not have a future at United. He needed a far stronger season for Lazio to make Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reconsider him.

This assist was a nice moment for him, and perhaps it will enable him to kick on, and finish the season strongly.
