Amad named in SPFL team of the week ahead of Rangers v Celtic derby tonight
Amad is preparing for his first Rangers v Celtic fixture tonight less than a week into his loan spell.
The Manchester United wonderkid had a fantastic start when he scored after just four minutes against Ross County at the weekend, continuing an impressive debut record.
Amad was also involved in Rangers’ second goal and produced a highlight-reel worthy performance in the 3-3 draw.
The teenager has since been named in the SPFL’s official team of the week as a result of his impressive debut.
The SPFL website wrote: “Rangers fans may have seen their team slip up at the weekend but they were still purring about seeing the Manchester United loanee.”
Now a big test awaits
Amad is expected to feature when Rangers visit Celtic for a pivotal derby clash between the two teams tonight in a 7.45pm kick-off.
Rangers’ advantage at the top of the league is cut to just two points after their weekend draw, with a resurgent confident Celtic winning their last four games in a row.
Amad is likely to be asked to play a key role, either as a starter or as an impact substitute. Rangers News has Amad predicted as a starter for the fixture.
At the weekend Amad came off during the second half, although was said to be simply fatigued rather than injured.
Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst told Rangers club media: “You can see what he can give to the team. He’s got the talent but we had to take him off because he didn’t have the rhythm other players have.”
After his excellent debut, Amad is not exactly a secret weapon. Celtic will be prepared for him, even if they can’t stop him.
The real challenge will be one of temperament. Amad will be playing in front of a packed Celtic Park, with vociferous fans trying to create an intimidating atmosphere for the Rangers player.
It is an excellent test for Amad, one he would probably prefer to come a few weeks in rather than a few days in, but not it is here, the United winger is likely to thrive on the challenge. Manchester United’s supporters will be watching with a keen eye.
