Amad Diallo reacts to Facundo Pellistri's influential Uruguay performance

Facundo Pellistri’s eye-catching performance for Uruguay caught the attention of Manchester United wonderkid and teammate Amad Diallo.

After making his senior international debut against Paraguay, Pellistri made it back-to-back starts in the 4-1 win against Venezuela.

Donning the number 11 shirt and starting alongside Luis Suarez and United teammate Edinson Cavani, the 20-year-old’s impressive start to life in the Uruguay side continued.

After Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur opened the scoring for Diego Alonso’s side after just one minute, the two-time World Cup winner’s second goal came via an inspired Pellistri.

Channelling his inner Lionel Messi, Pellistri set off on a dazzling mazy run, which saw him skip past three players, before cutting the ball back for Giorgian De Arrascaeta who tapped home to give his nation a side two-goal lead.

A Cavani bicycle kick on the stroke of half-time ensured Uruguay went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

The Venezuelan defence couldn’t contain Pellistri whose confidence was soaring.

After showing great balance to stay on his feet, the United youngster was bundled over in the penalty area and following a VAR check a spot-kick was awarded.

Suarez’s first effort was saved, but Venezuelan stopper Wuilker Farinez was harshly adjudged to have moved off his goal line before the penalty was struck. The Atletico Madrid striker sent Farinez the wrong way with his retake.

After being substituted alongside Cavani in the 67th minute, Pellistri finished the match with impressive stats.

SofaScore gave him a rating of 8.4. He completed all four of his dribbles and finished the match with a 93% passing accuracy.

Alongside the four chances Pellistri created, the winger produced a tireless performance out of possession and won seven tackles, as well as winning 13 ground duels and two aerial duels.

His impressive display didn’t go unnoticed by fellow Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo.

Reacting to Pellistri’s Instagram post, Amad’s response translates: ‘What a player’.

Shining on the biggest stage, Amad will be hoping to follow in Pellistri’s footsteps with a match-winning performance in tonight’s Old Firm derby.

After an inspiring international break, Pellistri will be hoping his performances for his national side warrant further game time at his loan club Alaves.

With just 679 minutes under his belt for the La Liga side so far this season, it’s been a frustrating campaign at club level for the former Penarol star.

But hopefully Facundo Pellistri’s breakthrough on the international scene will prove to be the catalyst in earning further minutes at club level, ahead of the next international break in March where Uruguay will hope to book their place in Qatar.
