Alejando Garnacho 'expected' to go on Manchester United pre-season tour
Alejandro Garnacho is ‘expected’ to be selected to go on Manchester United’s pre-season tour, report The Mail.
The 17-year-old was the star of Manchester United’s successful FA Youth Cup win, scoring seven goals in six games, including two in the final.
Garnacho is set to be handed a new contract, The Mail report, and it is anticipated Erik ten Hag will take him on United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.
Garnacho expected on pre-season tour
Garnacho being expected on pre-season tour shows how far he has come in the past year. This time last season he had not even made his first under-23 start.
Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season
Now he has already made his first team debut after a terrific campaign in which he scored 19 goals in all competitions and provided six assists.
Garnacho will turn 18 on July 1, with United due to fly out for the first game in Thailand days later.
Big decisions for Ten Hag
It’s almost too early to really project Ten Hag’s travelling squad, as there will be new signings – hopefully- involved, and some players who will be looking to leave the club.
There is also the matter of 16 players out on loan who are set to return, who will be battling Garnacho and co for places on the tour.
With Garnacho’s growing profile due to his Argentina call-up, comparisons to Ronaldo, and Youth Cup heroics, it’s quite reasonable to assume he will be in the squad, seeing as he has also made his first team debut.
Whether any other of the under-18s get the nod, will be interesting, with under-23 players ahead of them in the queue.
There is no international tournament this summer, and this is going to be United’s first pre-season tour since 2019.
With the tour offering the first glimpse of the Erik ten Hag era, interest will be sky high.
