Manchester United progressed to the FA Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night but Alan Shearer remains unimpressed.

Wednesday night saw Manchester United struggle through a fifth-round FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest, winning 1-0 at the City Ground.

The attacking side of Erik ten Hag‘s team was poor and is clearly struggling without Rasmus Hojlund being in the team.

Marcus Rashford hasn’t been enjoying his time up-top for United and his body language hasn’t kept that a secret.

After the game on Wednesday, Wayne Rooney explained what Rashford needs to get back to his best.

But now Alan Shearer has admitted that he’d also be frustrated playing as the striker with two United players around him.

Alan Shearer admits he’d also be annoyed playing with Manchester United duo

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast alongside Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, Shearer put himself in Rashford’s shoes up front and admitted he understands the frustration.

“Mind you, you know what, in that team… I’d get bloody frustrated in that team.

“Playing with Antony on the right who keeps on forever coming in on his left, [Alejandro] Garnacho on the left, who keeps on forever coming in on his right, I would get frustrated at times as well.”

This is a real struggle which has been a problem at United all campaign with Hojlund living off scraps and now Rashford is doing the same.

Erik ten Hag needs to sort out his front three to face City

This weekend, United need to throw in the towel on Rashford playing up front as he has been suffering and the team has also been as a result.

Put Rashford back on the left where he was beginning to show signs of performing and move Garnacho to the right where he’s been immense this year.

That leaves the striker position free and against City, Scott McTominay may be ideal given his physical qualities could offer United an out ball when under pressure.

From here, McTominay could hold the ball up before unleashing either of the wingers who are bombing past him.
