Manchester United scraped through the FA Cup fifth round, beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 through a late winner.

Erik ten Hag will be delighted with his side returning to the win column on Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United didn’t play well at all, but the win and progression into the quarter-finals is what was needed desperately ahead of a derby game this weekend.

Casemiro grabbed the winner, while Marcus Rashford as usual struggled up front, due to the absence of Erling Haaland.

Now, Wayne Rooney has told United exactly how to get Rashford back to his best…

Wayne Rooney on what Marcus Rashford needs

Speaking on BBC One after the final whistle, Rooney was asked about Rashford and particularly what he thought out of his display.

On this, Rooney explained that Rashford’s body language doesn’t reflect how he’s feeling, before explaining what the United squad need to do to get the best from him.

“Marcus is not really the most vocal lad so I think for him it’s difficult because I think his body language sometimes doesn’t look great, but he’s not like that.

“I think that’s where Casemiro, [Raphael] Varane and Bruno [Fernandes], that’s where they have to get more out of him… bigger personalities. But maybe having a little go at him to get him fired up a little bit and get that reaction from him.”

Rashford needs help up front for Manchester United

After another poor performance, many will blame Rashford for his poor body language and lack of effort through the middle in comparison to Rasmus Hojlund.

But, it’s no surprise this is the case when Rashford is getting literally zero service to live on up front.

It isn’t his fault he’s not a striker and is being shoehorned into the forward role due to the club’s inability to recruit a decent backup.

So if Rashford is to continue in this role he will need help and service otherwise the daunting Manchester Derby game which is incoming could be a bad day.
