Wout Weghorst surpasses Manchester United goal tally in as little as 14 days

Wout Weghorst has finally found his goalscoring touch – albeit a year too late for Manchester United.

The Dutch striker had a difficult time at Manchester United. Despite leading the line for most of the second half of Erik ten Hag‘s first season – he just could not seem to find the back of the net.

He was subsequently not kept on a permanent by United. His two goals for the Red Devils simply weren’t enough to justify keeping the towering forward.

This led to his loan expiring and him seeking out another footballing venture, which happened to be in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim.

Weghorst is finally scoring again

It has been tough going for Weghorst back in Germany, his season started as his United one finished – with goals coming few and far between.

However, a turn of fortune happened at the end of October, with Weghorst scoring a penalty in Hoffenheim’s 3-2 win away at Stuttgart.

This has now led to three goals for the striker in as little as 14 days, which surpassed what he achieved with United for half a season.

Following his penalty, he failed to net against Borussia Dortmund but then bagged in consecutive games against Bayer Leverkusen and FC Augsburg.

Better yet – these were both from open play for the 31-year-old.

It was never going to work with Wout Weghorst at Manchester United…

Let’s face it, Weghorst was never a long-term solution for Ten Hag.

The 31-year-old was brought in as a necessity during a striker crisis amid Cristiano Ronaldo‘s departure and was a decent servant considering the circumstances.

We’ll never forget his wild Community Shield celebrations or his kiss of the ball before the Solly March March penalty.

We wish him all the best – but he certainly won’t go down as one of Manchester United’s greatest-ever players.
