The first pre-season game of 2025/26 is in the books for Manchester United, and it’s a goalless draw against Leeds in Sweden.
Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon were the high-profile debutants in a game that lacked in quality, and was propped up by moments of inspiration.
Cunha impressed on debut and showed the kind of zip United have been lacking in the final third for a long time, despite the game finishing goalless.
However, Ruben Amorim singled out another player who did well against Leeds. He predicted good things for his future.

Ruben Amorim praises Diego Leon
Leon was given the ultimate seal of approval before even a ball was kicked in the 2025/26 season when Man Utd decided to find a loan for Harry Amass.
Without playing a game, Leon was given priority over someone who became a regular first-team member towards the end of the last season.
That faith was stressed again in the game against Leeds, as Leon started the first half with what, at least on paper, looked closer to the first team for competitive games.
Leon acquitted himself well to a sharp rise in competitive level, as he was coming on the back of playing in Paraguay.
All things considered, his debut impressed Ruben Amorim, as he chose the youngster for praise after the game, predicting a bright future.
He said: “We have to understand the kid came from Paraguay. It’s his second week, and he’s done well. He’s powerful, and he’s learning. He’ll be a very good player.”
Leon’s next battle at Man Utd
It is a testament to Leon’s hard work that he had already won his first battle at Old Trafford, to usurp Amass, before playing a game.
Now comes the challenge to show that he’s up to the level of playing as a backup at Man Utd, because Patrick Dorgu was much better in the second half.
That is to be expected, since Dorgu has been here for six months and is a Danish international. Therefore, Leon’s job is to just not look out of place when he is called upon.
As long as he cements himself as a reliable option, it will be a win for him this season, which has already begun in a bright light for him.
Winning over Amorim this soon is a positive sign and bodes well for his future.
