Tyler Fredricson was named in Manchester United’s starting lineup to face Wolves.

After the chaotic 5-4 win over Lyon in the Europa League, Ruben Amorim made it clear in his post-match comments that academy stars will get plenty of minutes in the remaining Premier League fixtures.

Manchester United’s focus has to be on winning the Europa League. The only way to salvage the season is to lift the trophy and qualify for the Champions League.

Against Wolves on Sunday afternoon, Amorim kept to his word and handed starts to defensive duo Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson.

Ruben Amorim hails ‘humble’ Tyler Fredricson

Amorim gave 27 debuts to academy players at Sporting Lisbon, and he is already showing faith in United’s young talent this season.

Fredricson was named in United’s Europa League squad in March, and now Amorim has trusted him with his senior debut and first start in the Premier League.

When discussing Fredricson’s selection, Amorim pointed out what he saw from the young defender in training.

Amorim told MUTV: “He’s really composed, he’s really humble. Every training with the first team, he’s really focused on every detail of training.

“He’s really good on the ball. So it’s a good opportunity for him.”

Tyler Fredricson could save Man United millions

Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system relies on three centre-backs who are all comfortable in possession – one of the traits spotted in Fredricson.

In the summer, Ineos could target a new centre-back with Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans expected to leave.

However, the budget is expected to be tight so if Amorim can find suitable replacements from within the academy then it could save the club millions.

Not only is Fredricson now breaking into the first team, but Godwill Kukonki has been promoted by Amorim, and Ayden Heaven has made a promising start to his career at Old Trafford.

The three young centre-backs are all pushing for a spot in Amorim’s first-team, and they have the remainder of this season and the post-season tour of Asia to try and work their way into his plans.
