Amad Diallo showed glimpses of brilliance during Manchester United’s defeat to Brentford.

A 4-3 defeat to Brentford on Sunday afternoon left Manchester United slumped 15th in the Premier League table with no wins in their last six league matches.

Ruben Amorim made eight changes to the starting lineup, handing Chido Obi his first start for United in the Premier League.

Things started brightly when Mason Mount scored the opener, but Brentford then scored four unanswered goals, leaving the Red Devils staring in the face of a heavy defeat.

However, late goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo set up a dramatic final few minutes, but this time Amorim’s side were unable to rescue a point.

Where Amad Diallo fits into Ruben Amorim’s Man United

Amad made a miraculous recovery from his injury setback this season, with initial reports suggesting his season might be over.

However, Amad made his return against Athletic Club midweek as United built up a 3-0 advantage in their Europa League semi-final. In the second leg at Old Trafford, Amad could return to the starting lineup.

The 22-year-old had to settle for a spot on the bench for the trip to Brentford, however, Amorim only waited until half-time to introduce him as a substitute.

United were 2-1 down at the time and needed more of an attacking threat. However, Amorim decided that Amad would come on in place of Patrick Dorgu at wing-back.

It has been debated where Amad’s long-term future lies in Amorim’s United side – either as an attacking No.10 or as a right wing-back.

Amorim’s decision to bring Amad on as a wing-back suggests that is where he will be positioned next season.

Dorgu has nailed down the left wing-back spot for United, while Amorim has juggled between Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Amad on the right this season.

Amad Diallo impresses at wing-back for Man United

Amorim wants his wing-backs to press forward, harass defenders and also provide a dangerous attacking threat with the ball at their feet.

While Dalot and Mazraoui are impressive defensively, they cannot match Amad’s attacking output when played at wing-back.

After coming on against Brentford, Amad was immediately a threat on United’s right flank, taking three shots and making one key pass in his 45-minute cameo.

His impressive cameo was more than enough to secure a starting spot for United in the second leg against Athletic Club on Thursday evening.

With Diogo Dalout out injured, there is a good chance that Amad could end the season as United’s first-choice right wing-back.
