Manchester United fans were deeply critical of what they saw from one first-team player’s performance under Ruben Amorim in the Brentford match on Sunday.

The Red Devils tasted their whopping 16th Premier League defeat of the season after Brentford’s 4-3 win over Manchester United at the Gtech Community Stadium.

United languish in 15th place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils have only three league matches left in their woeful 2024-25 campaign.

Ruben Amorim’s men have only managed 10 wins from 35 league matches and United will now end the season with their worst finish in the Premier League era.

Mason Mount opened the scoring for United in the first half before Brentford pulled themselves level after Luke Shaw put the ball past Altay Bayindir in the 27th minute.

Kevin Schade put Brentford 2-1 up going into half-time before the 23-year-old German winger completed his brace in the 70th minute on Sunday afternoon.

Yoane Wissa netted Brentford’s fourth past Altay Bayindir in the 74th minute before Alejandro Garnacho scored in the 82nd minute to reduce the deficit for United.

Amad Diallo came off the bench in the second half and found the back of the net deep into injury time, but Brentford held off United and sealed a 4-3 win on the day.

Man Utd fans send a message to Ruben Amorim after Altay Bayindir’s display vs Brentford in the 4-3 Premier League defeat

Ruben Amorim rotated his Manchester United first-team squad for Sunday’s visit to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford in the Premier League.

United defeated Athletic Club 3-0 in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday and Amorim left Andre Onana out of the squad for the Brentford match.

Altay Bayindir came in for Andre Onana, who was rested for the return leg against Athletic Club, and the shot-stopper deeply disappointed against Brentford.

The 27-year-old Turkish shot-stopper has appeared sporadically for the Red Devils this season and he has only played in eight matches across all competitions.

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, were unhappy with what they saw from Bayindir and want the player sold in the summer.

One Red Devils supporter tweeted: “Onana is better than Bayindir. Been saying this for so long.”

Another made the point: “I told everyone. As bad as Onana has been, he’s nowhere near as bad as Bayindir.”

A third United fan added: “Bayindir is a nervous wreck. He needs to leave in the summer. No two ways about it.”

Someone else commented: “In the last [two] games [that] Bayindir has kept goal, he’s conceded [eight] goals. Surely, we are looking at replacements in the summer?”

“Bayindir, thanks very much this season; please pack your bags,” another posted.

While a sixth claimed: “Onana is [a] decent ‘keeper, Bayindir plays like he’s not a ‘keeper.”

And a seventh added: “The more I think about Bayindir, the more I get annoyed. He has no Premier League-level attributes, so why the hell did we sign him? What about him suggested he was either going to push Onana for a spot or be a reliable back-up?”

Somebody else suggested: “Tom Heaton needs to start one of the remaining league games because we can’t have Bayindir in goal for us again.”

Ruben Amorim explains why Altay Bayindir started instead of Andre Onana for Man Utd’s 4-3 Premier League defeat to Brentford

United manager Amorim said that it was important for him to use different players and offer minutes to them ahead of the Red Devils’ upcoming Europa League tie.

“We as a club we need to understand in this moment we have a big responsibility,” he told BBC’s Match of the Day, as per BBC Sport.

“We have to prepare a squad for different competitions.”

Speaking on the second-leg semi-final clash against Athletic Club, Amorim added: “I think it’s stressful to lose games. When we’re fighting for a title, it’s not stressful.”

United will welcome La Liga outfit Athletic Club to Old Trafford on Thursday evening for their Europa League semi-final tie, with kick-off slated for 8pm UK time.
