Manchester United drew 3-3 with Galatasaray on Wednesday night, in the game Antony finally showed signs of being the player we bought.

Manchester United once again in the Champions League were so good on the front foot, but so weak defensively. United drew 3-3 against Galatasaray and in the process left themselves a massive task on match-day six.

Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay were on the scoresheet for United. But despite that, one United forward was hugely impressive without contributing a goal, and that is Antony.

Antony was really a danger all game down the right side and was linking up well with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Fernandes.

Due to his impressive display, Rio Ferdinand was full of praise for the Brazilian winger, along with his teammate Garnacho.

Rio Ferdinand praises Antony

Speaking on commentary for TNT Sport towards the end of the game on Wednesday, Ferdinand admitted he had to give Antony his flowers after his display.

He said: “You’ve got to give credit to him [Antony], he’s been a threat today.”

Antony had been out of the team for a few games with Marcus Rashford playing on the right. With Rashford absent through suspension to face Galatasaray, Antony had his chance and he took it. He looked like a renewed player, with clear new instructions to act as a facilitator creating space for others.

Antony’s stats against Galatasaray

In the game, Antony was a constant threat and often was the player putting someone else in for one of the numerous dangerous cutbacks we saw. He was cutting inside really well which created a lot of space which was exploited for McTominay to score the third goal for United.

He won six duels along with making one key pass according to SofaScore, but his performance wasn’t easily quantified by stats rather you needed to see the game to judge him.

These are positive signs for Antony and arguably it was one of the more encouraging displays he has put in this season. Hopefully, he builds from this and we see him get better and better game on-game.
