Real Sociedad boss comments on Ruben Amorim’s ‘many changes’ at Manchester United, ‘that’s why they are struggling’

Manchester United are back in action on Thursday night as Ruben Amorim prepares to take on Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

Manchester United’s FA Cup exit against Fulham places even greater importance on this Europa League clash with Real Sociedad.

Ineos want Europa League football for the next four years but United can sneak into the Champions League by winning the Europa League.

Ruben Amorim has played down the Europa League’s significance, suggesting that he is focusing on the long-term project at Old Trafford over winning a trophy.

Come Thursday evening though, United will need to be ready to battle against a dangerous Real Sociedad side.

The La Liga side have been in patchy form but possess some quality players throughout their side.

This tie is a real banana skin for United and Amorim cannot afford to take this game lightly.

Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil has now offered his thoughts on United whilst speaking to Noticias de Gipuzkoa.

Alguacil is looking forward to facing United and completely played down the notion of Amorim’s side being in a difficult position.

The Real Sociedad boss claims that United deserve to have won more Premier League games this season and pointed to an unbeaten record in the Europa League this term.

Alguacil did though highlight Amorim is attempting ‘many changes’ – and that is why the results have been disappointing.

Still, Alguacil makes United ‘one of the favourites’ to win the Europa League, highlighting the test facing his side.

“It’s not every day that you have games like this and against a big European team. I don’t agree that they are in a bad moment,” said Alguacil.

“They haven’t lost in Europe, they have a squad with top players at all levels, in the Premier League they have fewer victories than they have deserved per game, a new coach who is introducing many changes and that’s why they are struggling. They are doing phenomenally. They are one of the favourites to win the Europa League,” he added.

Real Sociedad defender on Manchester United

Real Sociedad defender Igor Zubeldia has also spoken to Noticias de Gipuzkoa ahead of facing United.

Zubeldia claims that Real Sociedad are ‘confident and excited’ whilst not being afraid of United at all.

Zubeldia just wants a positive result in Spain before taking the tie to Old Trafford, backing his side to cause problems.

“These games are not played every day, we are going to enjoy ourselves and try to take advantage of them. We will go out as if it were a final and get a good result,” said Zubeldia.

“Tomorrow we will go out to win but we know that there is a return match. If we don’t win, there will be another opportunity in the return leg. The important thing is to get a good result and decide it in England.

“It’s been a while since we’ve managed to get through. This year we’ve managed it. We know what it’s like to win against Manchester United, a great team, we’re not afraid of them. We respect them. We’re confident and excited and we believe in ourselves,” he added.

United are keeping tabs on Martin Zubimendi, so will be well aware of the threat Real Sociedad pose.

This trip to San Sebastian could be a tricky one for United and players must be ready for a tough encounter with a place in the quarter-finals on the line.
