Ruben Amorim has now explained the major call that he made around Joshua Zirkzee for Manchester United’s 1-1 result against Wolves at Old Trafford.

Who was Manchester United’s most DISAPPOINTING player vs Wolves?

Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo are currently away at the 2025 AFCON tournament, while Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes are both sidelined due to injuries.

The aforementioned Red Devils quartet were absent from United’s 1-1 draw against Wolves on Tuesday evening, with Zirkzee receiving a rare start on the night.

Zirkzee has been linked with a move away from United in the forthcoming January window amid falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim in the current campaign.

Speaking after United’s 1-1 draw against Wolves, the 40-year-old Red Devils boss revealed the reason why he withdrew out-of-favour striker Zirkzee from the match.

“We were running around trying to recover the ball,” Amorim told Sky Sports.

“They overload with a lot of midfielders and we were struggling with that and sometimes you can attack better with less strikers.

“We played with three strikers, [Matheus] Cunha, Josh and [Benjamin] Sesko, and sometimes it is not the best thing to attack well.”

Ruben Amorim’s feelings on what he saw from Man Utd players in the Premier League match at Old Trafford

Amorim admitted that the Red Devils disappointed on Tuesday evening and United were poor in possession and out of it during their encounter with Wolves.

“The players tried,” he said.

“We didn’t play well and when you don’t play well with the ball, you struggle even without the ball.

“We need to recover and to go to the next one.”
