United took a first-half lead through Patrick Dorgu and then Bryan Mbeumo, as Bruno Fernandes claimed the record for most assists in a Premier League season.

Winners

Firstly, the winners.

Bruno Fernandes: After equalling the record last weekend, Fernandes has now broken the record against Brighton.

A delightful corner was met by Patrick Dorgu’s head as he crashed it in off the crossbar.

The assist king and another performance, which further justifies why Fernandes is the player of the year.

Patrick Dorgu: Back in the starting line-up, Dorgu continued his incredible record at left wing.

A goal and an assist for Dorgu sees him sign off on a high note and show doubters why he was given the chance further up the pitch in the first place.

Next season, he could become undeniable in that role, but a great performance today.

Amad: It’s been a tough season for Amad, but against Brighton he managed to get an assist as part of a wonderful bit of play to set up Mbeumo.

This moment will do wonders for the confidence of Amad’s confidence, and it shows he still has his quality to contribute in the big moments.

Bryan Mbeumo: Scored another goal today to take his season tally to 12 in all competitions, ending the season with some form which hasn’t been present in a while.

Mbeumo will be fresh and fit for pre-season, and this again will have created some confidence for a player who hasn’t had it go his way in 2026.

Strong first season ends on a high.

Michael Carrick: Friday saw Carrick confirmed as the permanent United boss, and his worst nightmare would have been a heavy defeat to begin this era.

Instead, Carrick’s side were flawless, dominating Brighton and scoring some really good goals.

Now, the planning for next season can begin with the mood at Old Trafford remaining incredibly high.

Mason Mount: Lots of question marks have been raised around Mount recently, and where he can play in Carrick’s United. But his performance against Brighton proved he might have a future in central midfield.

Mount passed the ball really well, defended well, and helped United be the better side throughout.

Could there be life in Mount’s United career yet?

Shea Lacey: Finally, Lacey got his chance for United as he replaced Dorgu for the final 30 minutes.

Unfortunately, the game momentum had swung away from United at this stage, so he spent a lot of time defending, but he did everything asked of him.

Carrick should feel confident about Lacey being able to play a major role next season.

Tyler Fletcher: Like Lacey, Fletcher also got a good amount of time, and he also held his own, looked the part for United, and wasn’t overrun by Brighton’s midfield.

Fletcher will know he has a golden chance to be part of United’s midfield rebuild this summer, and this cameo won’t have harmed his chances.

Could potentially have pushed himself into pole position for a big chance during pre-season.

Carlos Baleba: A final day transfer audition for Baleba, and he impressed.

The game changed when Baleba came on, with his physicality and running putting United on the back foot almost immediately.

This performance should show Ineos not to judge him on some bad form earlier this season, as he’s been pretty solid for weeks now.

Losers

And the loser.

Manuel Ugarte: Left on the bench again, Ugarte quite clearly doesn’t have a future here, and Carrick isn’t shy about it.

Reports say that United have told Ugarte to leave, and Fletcher’s cameo was beyond what the Uruguayan offers.

A sad end to his United career.
