Sunday saw Manchester United triumph in the Manchester Derby, handing Ruben Amorim the biggest moment of his reign so far.

Ruben Amorim has referenced ‘Fergie-time’ while discussing Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday, and the game certainly fit the bill.

As the minutes ticked down, it was a Josko Gvardiol header that separated the two underwhelming teams.

But in the 88th minute, Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot, after Amad Diallo was fouled by Matheus Nunes.

However, man of the match Amad was not done there, as he skillfully rounded Ederson in the 91st minute by flicking it over the Brazilian’s head, before slotting it into the net.

After the 2-1 win, Amad may have taken every single headline but Manuel Ugarte is also deserving of praise – and he got it on MUTV.

Danny Webber praises Manuel Ugarte

So while most of the flowers will be directed at Amad or Harry Maguire, MUTV’s Danny Webber has singled out Ugarte after a brilliant midfield performance.

“Also a big mention to Ugarte in the middle of the park,” he explained following the incredible 2-1 comeback win.

“I thought he was strong and I thought it was one of his best performances since he’s been at the club.

“He broke a lot of things up and he dominated.”

Over the past few weeks, Ugarte has been getting better and better under Amorim and this performance is a sign he has fully arrived and now looks at home in the United midfield.

Ugarte was dominant for Manchester United

In the early weeks of Ugarte’s time as a United player, he looked off the pace and Erik ten Hag seemed totally unconvinced by the Uruguayan.

However, since the change of manager, Ugarte has been gradually improving every week – and his statistics from the derby win demonstrate that.

Ugarte is the combative midfielder that United have been waiting for however in possession he is also proving useful to Amorim.

United are looking to dominate games in possession and against City – while United had four per cent less – Ugarte was instrumental in recycling possession which helped the Red Devils dominate the game with three big chances to City’s one.
