This summer was always billed as being absolutely vital for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, and the head coach has taken full advantage.
After getting extended time on training field, Amorim’s United side have improved 10-fold with every aspect of the performance now functioning as expected.
United thrashed Bournemouth 4-1 in the early hours of Thursday morning, with the system being so impressive, outperforming the Cherries who were a lot better than the Red Devils last season.
There were no poor performances for United, but in particular, Patrick Dorgu stood out as the best performer as the Danish full-back scored and assisted.
However, his teammate was also in line for some praise.
Ben Thornley praises Rasmus Hojlund for his goal vs Bournemouth
Among United’s biggest winners during the 4-1 win over Bournemouth, was goalscorer Rasmus Hojlund, who has shown signs of the player once signed for £64m during pre-season.
The goal was impressive, as Hojlund glanced a header into the net, converting a brilliant cross from Dorgu early in the first half.
After the match, MUTV pundit Ben Thornley was full of praise for Hojlund’s goal.
“His movement to get away from Senesi was excellent, he was with him and then he just darted and there was nothing the defender could do about it and he just glanced it into the bottom corner, really good header.
The main difference that earned Hojlund this goal was the movement, which has not always been impressive under Amorim, but also the cross was too good not to take advantage of.

Thornley being so impressed by Hojlund’s goal is good to see, with the Dane clearly fighting for his United career, albeit it might be too late already. With United keen on signing Benjamin Sesko, all Hojlund can do is work hard and try to show he can be a starter.
Amorim was asked about Sesko after United’s victory, however, the United boss was also speaking positively about Hojlund to MUTV.
“For me, it’s more than the goal. For him it’s more important to score the goal, we need goals.
“But the way he is linking the play in this moment, the way he is fighting for the balls and the way he press the ball that is so important for us to play better, so he is doing a very good job.”
Hojlund will have to continue performing like this to convince anyone, as pre-season is not a true test, but so far, so good.
