Manchester United had several outstanding performers during Thursday night’s 4-1 win over Athletic Club.
Ruben Amorim was finally spotted smiling in the dugout as Manchester United’s head coach after a torrid first six months in charge.
It was after Mason Mount added a fourth goal for United that the camera cut to the 40-year-old and showed him beaming with joy. It is no doubt a massive relief to have reached the final, although the stress now begins over the trip to Bilbao.
Mount was one of the top performers, but there were several elite performances for United on the night, all working together to secure an impressive 7-1 aggregate win.
Amad Diallo was considered as another one of United’s best, as he had an immediate impact for the Red Devils with an excellent assist for Rasmus Hojlund’s goal.
For many United fans, Casemiro was a standout with another composed and mature performance in central midfield, using all of his experience to lead this young United side to a final.
While these three impressed, there was another in line for praise on MUTV.

David May lauds over Leny Yoro performance vs Athletic Club
While he will not be put alongside Amad or Mount as a star of the show, the performance of Leny Yoro was once again top drawer as he goes from strength to strength at United, already now looking undroppable.
The performance from Yoro caught the eye of MUTV pundit David May, as he raved about the 19-year-old Frenchman when asked who his player of the match was during the post-game show.
“Leny Yoro was outstanding, some big, big tackles, sometimes you don’t have to make massive tackles, it’s the reading of the game, he doesn’t play like a teenager does he.
“Reads the game ever so well, and he also comes out with the ball, for one of the goals he did it. Brilliant play, his future is massive at United if he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s got a massive future.”
Yoro’s game is evolving with his assist for Mount prime example of how he is now able to carry the ball and contribute with the ball rather than just without.
Leny Yoro’s performance proves exactly why he is a generational talent for Manchester United
When Yoro was signed by United for £52m last summer, he was considered a generational talent, as Ineos beat Real Madrid to his signature. It was not the best start for the Frenchman as he got injured and then, upon returning, had a steep learning curve in the Premier League.
But it is nights like Thursday when a generational talent earns that billing, and Yoro more than deserves it after he was brilliant against Bilbao.
| Statistic | Vs. Athletic Club |
| Minutes | 90 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Passing | 38/44 |
| Chances created | 2 |
| Touches | 65 |
| Tackles | 1/2 |
| Blocks | 4 |
| Clearances | 4 |
| Defensive actions | 13 |
| Recoveries | 5 |
| Duels won | 10/14 |
To be so good at 19, we can only imagine how dominant Yoro will be when he is 24 or 25, as he looks more and more certain to be one of the world’s best defenders.
Ineos will hope he has caught the United bug, and that the club returns to the top of football to ensure that Yoro remains at the club for years to come, as performances like this are sure to attract Madrid.
Yoro did admit that he “thanks God every day” for the fact he is a United player, so perhaps he won’t want to leave? We can hope.
