Manchester United fans have had their say on the team’s man of the match against Liverpool.

In recent weeks it has been pretty hard for Manchester United fans to select a man of the match.

United run an official poll for man of the match after every game – providing the team does not lose. And with four consecutive defeats heading into the clash at Liverpool, it had been a while.

Ruben Amorim’s side then upset the form book, claiming a useful point at Anfield, and coming close to collecting all three.

There were multiple contenders for the award, with Manuel Ugarte having to settle for second place despite an outstanding performance.

Manchester United supporters voted for the man of the match against Liverpool via the club website and app.

The top three are listed below, with Bruno Fernandes winning the award.

• Bruno Fernandes: 33 per cent
• Manuel Ugarte: 21 per cent
• Amad Diallo: 20 per cent
• All other players with lower percentage

Fernandes put in a big performance for United, a measured and controlled one in which he was patient with his passing.

This was summed up by the way he took his time to pick the hole in Liverpool’s defence for Lisandro Martinez’s opening goal.

Martinez and Amad were the scorers in the 2-2 draw, with Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho providing the assists.

Ruben Amorim will be the first to admit that results have been poor lately, and so have the performances.

This was much better from United, and Amorim says he is going to continue to push his team to hit new levels.

He told club media: “I am trying that every day, I am trying to push this team every day. Sometimes it is maybe not the best way, because I’m always challenging these players in everything I do, because I feel that we are – not just the players – but everybody in Manchester United is too comfortable.

“So I think we need sometimes a shock. And you can see it today, we were a different team. It’s not about the system, it’s the way we face the competition.”

The team’s performance, led by captain Fernandes, demonstrates that the players are buying in, and better is around the corner if the team can play like this each and every week.
