Manchester United got back to winning ways on Thursday night against Czech giants Viktoria Plzen.

Ruben Amorim can breathe a sigh of relief as his two-game losing streak has been halted.

However, for Manchester United, Thursday evening was far from smooth sailing with Viktoria Plzen striking first after yet another Andre Onana howler – which was very David de Gea-esque of him.

This served as a wake-up call for United, with some Amad Diallo magic ending up handing Rasmus Hojlund a clear-cut opportunity which he happily took to draw the two teams level.

16 minutes later, Hojlund was once more among the goals as he broke a record Wayne Rooney set back in 2003.

United won the game 2-1, and following the game the man of the match was up for grabs.

Manchester United fans vote for man of the match against Plzen

After full-time, United fans have been voting on the club website and app for their man of the match, and the results were staggeringly dominant for one player.

With a whopping 63 per cent of the vote, Hojlund was the deserved star of the game as his two goals turned defeat into victory.

The vote was never really in doubt, with Hojlund wowing United fans with his second brace of the season and seventh goal in 10 starts which is an impressive record.

This was Hojlund’s fifth goal in his past four starts, as he begins to catch fire under Amorim, scoring on average every 56.2 minutes of time he is on the pitch.

Owen Hargreaves backs Rasmus Hojlund to shine under Ruben Amorim

It was not only fans who were impressed by Hojlund, with Owen Hargreaves also left convinced that the Dane should be the guaranteed starting striker now under Amorim.

“Rasmus Hojlund is Ruben Amorim’s best option down the middle, that is for sure”, Hargreaves told TNT Sport after the game.

“I think Amorim had that idea beforehand as Viktor Gyokeres [at Sporting] is a really similar profile in terms of physicality and size.

“Hojlund is a great athlete as well.”

Hojlund shares plenty of traits with Gyokeres, and if he can continue this kind of form then there is no reason he won’t end up forcing United to remove a striker from the wishlist in 2025.
