Joshua Zirkzee could not escape the spotlight of Manchester United fans after his Premier League display against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.

Sunderland welcomed Manchester United to the Stadium of Light at the weekend and the Black Cats were unable to take the lead over the Red Devils in the first half.

The Black Cats pushed for the opener in the second half, but Sunderland were unable to break down Man Utd and had to walk away with a single point.

United struggled to assert their influence over Sunderland in either half of the Premier League match and the Red Devils’ performance was underwhelming.

Joshua Zirkzee was under the watchful eye of Man Utd fans during the Premier League clash against Sunderland

Posting on United In Focus’ TalkingPoints, Manchester United fans reacted to Joshua Zirkzee by saying that the striker has likely played his last match for the club.

A Red Devils supporter wrote: “Not good enough at all. That’ll be him sold this summer.”

Somebody else added: “Depends on [Benjamin] Sesko’s injury, but I hope so [that he doesn’t play again]. Such a poor signing. Offered us very little since arriving.”

“It should be [his last Man Utd match]. Not good enough, and Ineos better add a striker to the shopping list,” a third claimed.

Another Man Utd fan posted: “Zirkzee has had the odd moment at [Man] Utd, but [he’s] simply not good enough, especially as a lone striker.”

And a fifth said: “Just not good enough.”

“That’s his last start and, to be honest, I’d leave him home [for] the next two games, give Chido Obi his minutes and plan for the future because Zirkzee won’t be involved,” a sixth suggested.

Michael Carrick’s Man Utd interim head coach reign at Old Trafford inches even closer to its end

Following the visit to the Stadium of Light, Michael Carrick will now return to the Old Trafford dugout for his final home match in charge of the Red Devils this season.

United host Nottingham Forest at the Theatre of Dreams next Sunday afternoon for the Red Devils’ penultimate Premier League match of the 2025-26 campaign.

Carrick’s final match as interim head coach will then come on 24th May at the Amex, with Man Utd facing Brighton on the final day of the Premier League season.

The 44-year-old United legend made his sensational return to Old Trafford back in January after Ineos made the call to sack Ruben Amorim as Man Utd head coach.

Carrick has been linked with the vacant United manager role amid the Red Devils’ hunt for Ruben Amorim’s long-term successor in the Old Trafford hot seat.
