Jose Mourinho picks out Man Utd player who did the ‘impossible’ against his Fenerbahce side

Manchester United are still winless in Europe this season after drawing 1-1 with Fenerbahce in Istanbul.

Following last year’s trip to ‘hell’ against Galatasaray, a return to Turkey will not have been on Erik ten Hag’s to-do list in 2024/25, but the Europa League had different plans.

When compared with last season’s Turkish outing, Thursday night was much better as Manchester United didn’t suffer a complete collapse after going ahead.

The game ended Fenerbahce 1-1 United, with the Red Devils lucky to have gotten a point from the game in all honesty.

United had some strong individual performances which helped keep the Super Lig giants at bay – now Jose Mourinho has picked out one who did the impossible.

Jose Mourinho in awe of Andre Onana

In securing a 1-1 draw, Mourinho maintained his successful home record against United, however, it could have gotten even better if it hadn’t been for Andre Onana.

Speaking post-game with TNT Sports, Mourinho had praise for just one United player.

“Onana made two incredible saves, in our fantastic initial period.”

He was then asked about choosing Onana as the man of the match.

“Come on.. he saves the result, my goalkeeper didn’t make a save, he made two impossible saves in 10 seconds. I think he’s the most decisive player in the result. Two saves… incredible.”

Onana’s performance speaks for itself, and just like away at Selhurst Park against Palace, he prevented a loss.

Manchester United saved by Onana again

Double saves are becoming quite the staple of Onana’s top-class performances and it was the case again on Thursday night.

The Cameroonian was there when it mattered and made the important difference in a game in which United were once again awful.

Onana has been the true MVP for United this season and without the No.24, Ten Hag might already be gone from his position at United.

After his disappointing debut season, there has been a notable improvement already this campaign – if he continues, any success United have this season will be attributable to the goalkeeper.
