Manchester United’s European campaign continues to stutter after a Premier League win as they threw away another lead to draw 1-1 in Turkey vs Fenerbahce.
The game started in a cauldron and United was tentative in their start. It was scrappy instead of end-to-end in the first half as clear-cut chances were few and far between.
The deadlock was broken after that tentative start as Eriksen latched on to a Zirkzee layoff to finish clinically and gave United the lead.
Atmosphere around the game and Jose Mourinho’s theatrics were still the most notable things about the first half as it finished without many opportunities for either side.
Fenerbahce returned for the second half with the wind in their sails and equalised just three minutes after the restart. A familiar script was playing out as United looked panicked again after losing the lead. They had to navigate a tricky period immediately after conceding but avoided the calamity of going behind.
The winner was not coming from either side as they seemed happy with the draw and despite United being in the ascendancy, points were shared.

Here’s how the players rated:
Andre Onana – 9
Manchester United have a new, bonafide world-class player in Onana now. Continued his great form this season with an unbelievable double save in the first half that had no right being saved.
Diogo Dalot – 6
Faced an old ghost in Saint-Maximin and shepherded him fairly well until Fernerbahce’s equaliser when he allowed him to cross easily for En-Nesyri.
Matthijs de Ligt – 7
Extremely assertive and front-foot in defence as the confidence is starting to flow. One rough tackle to take the ball away from Saint-Maximin epitomised his belief in his abilities now.
Victor Lindelof – 5
Was having a stable return to the starting XI with a good block in the first half but allowed En-Nesyri to get ahead of him too easily for Fenerbahce’s equaliser.
Lisandro Martinez – 6
Struggled to start with as he was too eager to win the ball back, leading to some errors. Was sent sliding off the field with a feint but improved as the game went on.
Christian Eriksen – 7.5
At his current rate, he is making United’s decision to offer him an extension or not for them. Another goal, this time a fine curler that would make the most clinical strikers blush.
Manuel Ugarte – 8
This was Ugarte’s game to kickstart his Man Utd career and kickstart it he did. Brilliant tackle to win the ball back in the buildup to United’s opener and a goal-saving block to save them from conceding a few minutes later.
Noussair Mazraoui – 6
Involved in United’s opener but generally struggled to get into the game in an unfamiliar position. Pressed well from No. 10 which was perhaps his prime responsibility on the day. Came back to left-back after changes in the second half.
Marcus Rashford – 7.5
Full of confidence and running as he showed a newfound ability to cut inside on his left foot from the right wing. Almost scored with that move and was lively throughout.
Alejandro Garnacho – 7
A step below his new world-class standards but still a very good and energetic display. Kept his fullback honest while attacking and ran his socks off in defence.
Joshua Zirkzee – 6
The smart layoff for Eriksen to finish and give United the lead was Zirkzee at his best. The struggle to remain threatening for the rest of the game showed why that can’t be all he has.
Substitutes
Casemiro – 6
Ten Hag looked satisfied with the draw and Casemiro came on to ensure it happened. A no-fuss display that did the job.
Rasmus Hojlund – 6.5
Looked more threatening than Zirkzee and had a couple of potshots at the goal. Clear first-choice now.
Antony – 5
Came on instead of Amad which was baffling. Didn’t do much before getting injured so the Ivorian had to come on anyway in his place. Had to be stretchered off so hoping the injury isn’t serious.
Amad – 6
Came on with less than ten minutes to go as a forced sub for Antony and immediately drew a foul in a dangerous area while getting a Fenerbahce player booked.
Manager
Erik ten Hag – 4
Not much he tried came off vs Fenerbahce starting with Mazraoui as the unlikely No 10 and ending with Antony coming on instead of Amad. A draw in Turkey would have been good had United won their previous games. Instead, it was more of the same for them in Europe as another lead was thrown away. The ambition to win here seemed lacking.
